Butterflies in the valley

by Barbara Butler

July 11th 2007 was a dull overcast day. Butterflies tend not to come out to play on such a day, but in our meadow in Tuddenham Lane and along Strugglers Lane the Butterfly Conservation Society saw:

        Meadow Brown,	Ringlet,
        Gatekeeper,	Green veined White,
        Essex Skipper,	Brown Argus,
        Red Admiral,	Comma,
        Large White,	Purple Hairstreak,
        Small Skipper,	Large Skipper,
        Small White,	Small Tortoiseshell,
        Peacock,	Speckled Wood.

Birds on the meadow included Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Goldfinches, Yellowhammer, Chiffchaff, and Kingfisher.

There are dragonflies and damselflies, including the Banded Demoiselle over the pond. In the pond are frogs, toads, newts and great crested newts.
